Drawing on my experience as a former football player, work co-developing sports-based programmes with grassroots organisations, and ongoing participatory fieldwork in Medellin, I focus on the potential of sport, play and games as a form of action research. I explore what distinguishes these practices from other participatory methods and the conditions under which they can spur collective action and open up new pathways for social change.
